May: how do the recent tax changes affect the retirement environment?
Retirement annuities, referred to simply as RAs, have come a long way in recent years both in terms of tax advantages and product structure from the days of the initial contractual life assurance products, which have been the cause of widespread discontent.

acsis Financial Security Barometer 2011

Results from our very first Financial Security Barometer has revealed that middle-to-upper income South Africans who make use of financial planners are significantly more financially secure than those who do not.

The acsis Financial Security Barometer was created to provide an objective measurement of the financial security of middle-to-upper income South Africans, as well as to determine the importance of financial planning in achieving long-term financial goals. It was calculated following an independent survey of more than 400 individuals and based on their scores on several factors that significantly influenced financial security. The objective scores revealed that at 6.9 out of 10, the financial security score of pre-retired individuals with a financial planner is significantly higher than the 6.1 scored by those without a financial planner. According to Andrew Bradley, this is a clear finding that a living financial plan and the use of an expert in these matters significantly empowers people and contributes to their financial well-being.

acsis participates in the Teach a Child initiative

As part of savings month, acsis once again took part in the South African Saving’s Institute’s (SASI’s) Teach a Child to Save initiative. A number of staff members and some of our strategic partners visited various schools around the country and taught underprivileged kids about the benefits of saving. In addition to this, in Cape Town we also ran a savings drive for the children of Vanguard Primary. This is the second year that we have run this drive as an added incentive so that children experience, first hand, the benefits of saving. Classes were asked to set a realistic savings target and subsequently save towards this goal. acsis agreed to donate an additional R1000 should the classes reach their target in time. Last year the children exceeded their target and we have high hopes that they will do the same again! Thank you to all of those who participated in this empowering initiative.
